The round defence tower

The ancient and massive, tall, heavy granite defense tower from 1687 is one of the most legendary buildings on Ertholmene. It can be seen even from Bornholm, more than an hour away on boat, as a clear cut form standing out in the mid of the Baltic Sea

The small tower – Lille taarn on Frederiksoe

Watercolor and text by Frits Ahlefeldt

Entering on a day with strong winds, the quiet in there is surprising. The meter thick granite walls giving a solid and time-less feel to the place, as a huge resting creature, silently watching the huge waves below the walls

On days with storms or thunder clouds approaching, the small tower defence tower face the oncoming challenge in ways that can almost seems like it is protecting all the smaller huts and buildings on the Ertholmene islands
